システムファイルを実行できません

次のコマンドでRubyをインストールしようとしています。

sudo apt-get install ruby1.8

出力：

1. すべてのデータを失うことなくファイルシステムを読み書きできるようにするにはどうすればよいですか？
2. これが適切ですsudo mount / -o remount,rwか？他にどのようなオプションがありますか？

注：システムはESXIサーバーで実行されているdebian vmです。
