私はLinux Mint 14を使用していますが、最近次のような問題が発生しました。
一部のソフトウェア（正確にはTorchatとLibreOffice）をアンインストールしてインストールしてから再起動した後、システムにログインできないことがわかりました。
私が最初に気づいたのは、私のログインとパスワードを入力するためのコンソールラインでした。その後、コンソールは私を迎えました。

単にWebを閲覧しながらmdmをインストールすることが可能な解決策である可能性があることがわかりました。しかし、その後、コンソールからいつでもスキップしてすぐにこの黒い画面にログインし始めたので、削除する必要がありました。インターネット上で見つけた他の方法のどれも動作しないようです。

おそらく、Officeパッケージの依存関係でxserverを削除した可能性があります。
まず作ってみてください。
sudo /etc/init.d/[gdm kdm ...] start
何も起こらない場合は、/var/logで最後のログメッセージを見つけてください。
ls -lhtr /var/log
そして、最近修正されたファイルの尾を読んでください。
