php5-cliはdebian wheezyでreadlineのサポートを提供しません。これは、インタラクティブなPHPシェル（次に実行$ php -a）にプロンプト（）がなく、php >代わりに単に言ってInteractive mode enabled空の行にカーソルを残すことを意味します。 phpを実行できますが、厄介です。たとえば、<? echo 'hi'; ?> enterctrldphpコマンドを実行しますが、確かにreadlineをサポートするプロンプトほど良くありません。

Debian には新しいパッケージがあります。php5-readline
ただインストールしてください（たぶんlibreadline-devphp >前）プロンプトが表示されます。
