一部のGUIアプリケーション（signalやslackなど）でリンクをクリックするたびに何も起こらないか、画面がちらつくことがあります（firefoxを正常に起動しても画面が点滅します）。これは Firefox がすでに実行されているかどうかに関係なく発生します。 Firefoxウィンドウをすべて閉じても何も起こりません。ただし、killall firefoxコマンドラインで2回実行すると、Chromiumが突然開き、過去数日間にクリックしたすべてのリンクが表示されます。すべてのアプリでこれが起こるわけではありません。たとえば、gajimリンクはうまく開きます。
Firefoxは次のURLを開くように設定されています。

リンクをクリックすると、2つのFirefoxプロセスが作成されます。 1つは機能せず、もう1つはリンクがあります。

Firefoxがすでに実行されているかどうかにかかわらず、同じプロセスが発生します。 Firefox ウィンドウを閉じても、これらのプロセスは終了しません。したがって、実行した後にのみこのkillall firefox動作を確認できます。
ターミナルウィンドウで次のいずれかのコマンドを実行すると、Firefoxは期待どおりに正常にリンクを開きます。
$ xdg-open https://google.com
$ /usr/lib/firefox/firefox https://google.com
私はアーチLinuxでデスクトップ環境なしでopenboxを使用しています。最近KDE Plasmaをインストールし、一度実行しましたが、パネルがめちゃくちゃになってすぐに削除されました。一般的なOpenbox設定に戻った後、いくつかの設定が混乱していることがわかりました。似たような時期に始まったと思います。
